Google Chat has introduced a new feature for instant voice meetings, taking a page from Slack’s playbook with its popular “Huddles.” Staying consistent with Slack’s terminology, Google is also calling this feature “Huddles.” The update aims to make it easier for users to quickly switch from text-based communication to voice or video calls directly within the chat interface.
To start a huddle in Google Chat, users simply click the drop-down menu next to the call icon and select the “Start the huddle” option. The call begins as a voice call by default, but participants can enable video or share their screens, leveraging Google Meet’s familiar functionality.
This feature, originally announced as part of last year’s Google Chat refresh, is now rolling out to users. It will become available to all Google Workspace users in the coming weeks, adding a seamless, interactive way to collaborate within the platform.
